Unfinished flooring is ideal for replacing part of a floor. Add new unfinished hardwood flooring to an existing floor to replace damaged pieces and finish it to match. Our selection of unfinished hardwood includes both solid and engineered woods in domestic and exotic varieties. Whether you’re looking for unfinished hickory or tigerwood flooring, both options and more are available through our store. Additionally, choose from various grades ranging from clear – the highest grade available – to character and cabin grades for both solid and engineered varieties.
Both unfinished solid and engineered hardwoods come in domestic varieties. This includes all basic types of North American hardwoods, such as red and white oak, hickory, walnut, and cherry. Each type is available in clear, select and better, character, and common grades, as well as a few cuts. All types of domestic unfinished hardwoods come in plain, rift and quartered, and quartered only for some variation in the grain. Rift and quartered, for example, gives a more detailed view of the wood’s grain, which allows for more brilliance.
Aside from domestic options, other unfinished hardwood flooring in our selection includes common exotic wood species. This includes Brazilian cherry, Brazilian walnut, Brazilian teak, tigerwood, Santos mahogany, Australian cypress, and lapacho. Also available in strip and plank sizes, our unfinished exotic hardwoods are solid in the highest two grades – clear and select and better.
With unfinished engineered and solid varieties, how do you choose which one is best for your home? In many cases, this depends on what will be under the wood and how your home is heated. In the case that concrete will be directly under the floor or the home has radiant heat, engineered hardwood will last longer. The top layer of a piece of engineered flooring is natural wood with a thickness of 5/16ths of an inch. Supporting is a nine-ply birch core to fill out the rest of the 5/8ths inch thick piece of wood. Because only part of the board is natural wood, the flooring can be placed near heat or cold materials like concrete without warping or expanding.
Although we try extremely hard to provide photographs that accurately depict our many flooring products, the colors shown may vary in color from the actual flooring. This is due to different computer monitor settings that you may be viewing our website on, image quality, transfer quality etc. Our pictures are only meant to help guide you with your color choices as you make your very important flooring decision.
